20 bedded After Care
Centre run by a team of committed professionals
Drug dependents, alcoholics who have repeated relapses and patients
with minimal family support need extended care. The After Care
Centre caters to this need and these patients attend this programme on completion of primary treatment.
Established in 1989, the Centre has 20 beds. A team of qualified
professionals, deeply committed to the mission, provide the patients
both medical and psychological treatment.
Situated within the premises of the TTK Hospital, the After Care Center has only general wards. Other facilities include recreation center / gym and canteen.
Duration : 2 months
Psychological therapy comprises individual counseling, re-educative
sessions and group therapy. Training in computer education or
tailoring is provided.
Treatment issues
Patients and family members are encouraged to attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-Anon meetings. Meetings are also held at the hospital premises.
Deeper focus on addiction related damage
Identify relapse triggers and strengthen coping strategies
Initiate life skills development
Assist in recognising negative emotions and in dealing with them appropriately
Facilitate involvement in healthy recreational activities
Strengthen family and other social support
Follow-up forms an important part of the treatment and it is maintained for a period of five years. Patients are encouraged to meet the doctor and their counselors regularly to seek medical advice and report on their progress.
Support groups – NA, AA and Al-Anon
Patients and family members are encouraged to attend Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-Anon meetings. Meetings are also held at the center.
Helping the family towards leading a qualitative life
The family members are expected to attend therapy programme on Saturdays.
